Legacy Matters Episode 48: RJ Kern

We are in the midst of the Minnesota State Fair and have a very special guest to mark this special occasion. The Legacy Matters crew welcomes photographer RJ Kern, chosen to create this year’s Commerative Artwork for the Minnesota State Fair and creator of the “Best of the Best” series which chronicles the Fair’s prize winning animals from 2018. RJ is the first photographer to achieve such honor and it is clear his pride and craftsmanship shines through in the final piece.

Listen to hear the inside tricks behind this magical image, along with an informative lesson on the history of photography and animal husbandry. RJ has traveled the world documenting animals in their domestic habitats, creating images of stark, ethereal beauty. He finds beauty in the everyday, compiling an impressive catalogue of work now on display at the Burnet Fine Art & Advisory in Wayzata, MN (thanks for the private tour RJ!) and in such esteemed publications as National Geographic.

Learn more about RJ’s work with the Minnesota State Fair.

Learn more about RJ on his website.

Take a peek at his book, “The Sheep and the Goats”, both commemorative edition and hardcover.

And, visit his work at the Burnet Gallery.

You can find him at @kernphoto on Instagram.
